EVALUATION

1) In what ways does your media product develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In my Fashion magazine, I have followed convention as my masthead is at the top of my magazine and goes from the left to the right. On the other hand, my model is subverting convention as she is not making eye contact with the reader. This creates an idea of a rebels as she is a young girl who is not following the common conventions of a magazine.
My magazine is semi- conventional as my model is young teenager and I tried to portray her as rebellious. The conventions also kept it subtle and as she is a school girl, she follows rules which is why I maintained some conventions. This will attract readers as my target audience is a range of 14-16 and therefore it kind of pops and reflects a modest vibe as my model is also fully covered.

2) How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I used photoshop and the layers helped as I kept things separate so I didn't need to edit the whole thing as 1 thing.
I also embossed some text which made it stand out and look different. I also used the spot healing brush to remove some spots on Aiman's forehead.
I even used a paint icon which allowed me to match the colours of my picture to my text. This really helped m as it matched and helped create a house style which is that my masthead matches my picture. This blends well and makes the magazine look professional as the colours don't look odd.

For one of my posts, I used prezzi as it made my presentation look well made and professional.
I also used surveymonkey for my market research as it was a well known survey company and was really simple to use. This helped me as I found out what my target audience prefer.

3).What will you look to improve on for your NEA? (Time management? More planning? More research?)
I would like to improve my time management as I was not able to create a context page despite the fact that we received enough time. I underestimated the effort it takes to make a magazine cover and therefore I did not manage my time. I also need to be more detailed for my blog as I have done alot of posts but I received all 2s. I hope next time to present things with more quality.
I will also plan beforehand as I didnt realise that I was a bit far behind until after the final stages.

4)What have you learned about yourself from this process? (Creative? Enjoy the practical more, or less? Need to be more organised? Need to treat media with respect more?)

I learnt that I should not have underestimated media as a subject as I thought itd be easy to start with but it takes alot of organisation and skill. I also found out that I actually really enjoyed myself in this subject as you explore different media products and use them and just play around with. Lastly, I learnt that in the future, that I need to be more organised and planned for so I wont have to struggle in the middle. I know for the future that I should try and enjoy myself and do work instead of stressing out and making no progress.

PRELIM:Flatplan

As previously mentioned, Faboosh used to be my masthead but I changed it to MODESTE. This is my flaplan which I briefly filled with coverlines and other things. It was really hard to follow this as I made this flatplan according to my Masthead so the housestyles were different. I still used some things that I used in my flaplan such as my barcode position or the position of the issue and price. In my actual front cover, I am not including a graphic as it doesn't fit into the class or sophistication o my magazine and makes it look tacky and unprofessional. Although, unfortunately, on my flaplan i have alot of plank space but on the actual magazine on photoshop, I do not have any room for any coverlines and therefore I need to modify the placing of my cover lines. For the actual magazine, you underestimat e the amount of space you have as the Flat plan makes it seem completely empty.I have tried to incorporate as many editing techniques that I could add so it seems that I do know how to use photoshop. Due to the lack of time, we r not able to do a contents page, although I did make a Flatplan for that.
For my contents page, I was going to have several pictures that are fashion related so it could fit the page and then the page numbers as well as the information around it.This filled my page on my flatplan and also helped me make the magazine seem younger than it is being presented.

PRELIM:Model Consent Form

For my Model, I chose the beautiful Aiman Akram who is fortunately one of my friends. I felt that she could do justice to the pictures and the magazine. As I thought, she did very well and I am proud of what she has helped me with. Aiman cooperated with me and together we both took several pictures until we had a sufficient amount. Without a doubt, I would choose aiman as my model if needed. She brought around 10 pairs of clothes and we didn't even use half of them!!!
I chose aiman as my model as I knew she would not disappoint me whatsoever. I also knew that she would do justice to the poses. The pictures were taken after school on the field as I felt that natural lighting would show the true beauty of Aiman and wouldn't hide anything.

PRELIM: Choice of Magazine Brand Name

IM Fell French Canon Bold

After a short amount of struggle, I have discovered a brand name that I am sufficiently pleased with. My magazine is called MODESTE. This is because Modeste is modest in french. To be modest is to be humble or shy or not extreme. An example of modest is a person who doesn't easily take their clothes off around others. This supports my Reader Profile as it is based on a girl who is Muslim and does not support the male gaze. I chose to put modest in french as often, the connotations of french is classy and sophistication which comes down to the ideals and beliefs of my magazine which is a sophisticated magazine that promotes modesty.

My magazine is about the latest fashion trends as well as the culture of our country or other beliefs. This is significant as my magazine strives to provide entertainment as well as beneficial information that won't bore someone such as meditation techniques.
I hope that my magazine maintains the house style as well as the task to be a fashion magazine.

Previously, I named my magazine Faboosh as I was struggling with a name. I don't recall the reason or the idea behind that name but I was told that our brand name could be replaced so I thought of a temporary one.

PRELIM: Reader profile

Image result for clipart hijab girlAishah Deen is a 15 year old girl who is currently doing her GCSEs. Aishah prefers magazines that show a less amount of skin or male gaze as she does not approve of it and neither do her strict parents. Aishah is currently in Year 10, moving onto year 11 . She has studied all about the media and its free press as media was one of her limited subject choices and she therefore does not approve of it. She believes that a female has control of her own body and that it shouldn't be advertised for audience persuasion. Aishah is also up to date with all the fashion trends and is popular on all social media platforms. Aishah often chooses comfort over style as she believes that if she is comfortable and looks presentable, the opinions of haters do not matter. Although you wouldn't find her at the shopping centre in pyjamas!
She prefers to concentrate on studying but also enjoys herself with her friends. In the future, she wants to work along the career choice of a artist as she enjoy expressing herself, especially through art. She supports the LGBT movement as she likes it when people are being who they want to be with no fear. Aishah often shops at places like Topshop, Next and Zara as she finds a sufficient amount of items that meet her requirements such as long sleeved or at least 3/4 due to the fact that she wears hijab. Another reason is that she finds modern, urban and long-lasting clothes in those places for a reasonable price. Aishah does not shop at Primark despite the fact that all her friends buy majority of their clothes from there due to the fact that she does not enjoy the quality or materials that the product is made from.

PRELIM: Market Research

For my market research, I conducted an online survey about preferences of colours, magazines and what my front cover should contain which helped me build a better understanding of what my target audience would like to see such as the choice of colours or which magazine I should get inspiration from or what they definitely don't want to see.

If you would like to view the survey, go on this link:https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CLZKWZP

PRELIM: Statement of Intent

I have been tasked to produce a fashion magazine for ages 14-18 and I will target mine around females.
Through out my magazine, I will be including media language through camerawork, the help of editing and mis en scène (what is put in the frame or scene).
The Camera angles and camera shots I may use for my front page is a long shot due to the fact that its a fashion magazine and therefore the clothes should be shown. In the research I conducted, I found out that people mostly would buy the magazine for the beauty of both the model and the magazine itself. My target audience would also read the magazine for the trends that they could relate to and that they like and that is why I have chosen a young beautiful model. She will be wearing casual but appealing clothes which is one of the most common types of clothes that teenagers wear. I have chosen 2 backgrounds that i may use. 1 of them is that I have my model in the middle of a nature scenery as it creates a sense of welcoming spring. The second background I have thought about has been inspired by a magazine of Zendaya where she is has been featured in front of a whit background. This has given me an idea of my model slightly leaning against a white wall showing her clothes that she is wearing.
I also had an idea of using a medium shot or medium close up of the model as it will able the reader to see some of her facial features as well as her clothes. The angle I will us will be quite low as it will give the model a sense of authority and dominance. This will relate to my model as teenagers are thought to think of themselves as authoritative. My model will also relate to my mast head which is Modeste as she will be covered with no male gaze. Modeste is French for modest. The use of french  often connotes a sense of sophistication which will link with my model as she is in her middle teens and is starting to become a little more mature.
My colour scheme will follow convention which is black and white and 1 more colour; maybe gold or bronze. This will also reflect a sense of maturity as well as power.
